Why New Wave still holds a special place in the hearts of DJs everywhere

Back in the late '70s and throughout the '80s, the music scene experienced a seismic shift as a new sub-genre of music emerged called New Wave. With its roots in rock-and-roll, punk, and synth-powered disco, New Wave music swept across the landscape, instantly gaining legions of fans. DJ Rama.

Over the decades, New Wave has never lost its momentum. While most of the original fans of the genre got older, younger audiophiles learned to appreciate the musicianship and overall feel of New Wave, especially in clubs.

DJ Rama. Today, DJs still play some of the most poignant New Wave hits, that include Seona Dancing’s “More to Lose,” Industry’s “State of the Nation,” and Robin Gibb’s “Boys Do Fall in Love,” and of course, A-Ha’s “Take on Me.”

DJ Rama. However, today’s DJs have mixed many of these classics resulting in updated versions that may or may not fall in favor with traditional New Wave followers. Be that as it may, the soul of the music stays the same, and the synthesizers still rise above everything else.

Even the fashion of the birth era of New Wave is experiencing a revival, as seen in numerous clubs all around the country. And for better or worse, New Wave is here to stay, thanks largely to DJs everywhere. DJ Rama.
